Kreating Karloff documents the creation of a Screen Test, as actor Conor Timmis vies to win the role of movie legend Boris Karloff in a proposed film biography of the star's life and times. Recreating scenes from two classic Karloff films, Frankenstein (1931) and The Mummy (1932), Timmis receives fine support from actress Liesl Ehardt - the actual cousin of Karloff's Mummy co-star, Zita Johann. The film is directed by Vatche Arabian. Kreating Karloff is about re-creating Karloff characters. Conor Timmis learns exactly how Boris Karloff was transformed by Hollywood make-up ace Jack Pierce, as the same exacting processes are revisited by modern makeup artist Norman Bryn (Cloverfield, Saturday Night Live). Kreating Karloff is a tribute to the films and characters which made Boris Karloff a household name, as well as a testimonial to the character of an actor who suffered and sacrificed on that long road to stardom. It's a film by Karloff Fans for Karloff Fans - and for a new generation of viewers yet to discover this unique performer who presided over what many refer to as "The Golden Age of Hollywood Horror." |
| "Kreating Karloff uses reverence, delicacy and great skill to literally resurrect one of the greatest horror stars from the dead. Conor Timmis' Mummy, in particular, is worth the price of admission." --David Colton, USA TODAY/The Classic Horror Film Board "Boris Karloff is a supremely well-loved figure worldwide, but Conor Timmis and Vatche Arabians' KREATING KARLOFF is one of the few homages that goes above and beyond the call of duty in its intention, production values, and sheer love of its subject in the spirit of paying tribute to this legend of horror cinema in its golden age." --Scott Essman, Jack Pierce Biographer/Documentarian "A talented young performer paying tribute to the screen legend who inspired him." --MJ Simpson, MJSimpson.co.uk |
